So to answer the main question from that warm night: Yes. The Circuit of the Americas does make a good venue for large charity events.

For Communities in Schools’ popular Food for Thought party, planners used the huge media center with its “control room” and lobby, as well as the podium area at one end of the race car pit. This gave guests a small sense of the place. Even though the three-story Paddock Club, main grandstands, media center, loading area and plume-like tower were lit up beautifully, that’s only a fraction of the track. Guests must return on another day to take in the spectacle of the place.

Is is far out? Nah. My drive each way was about 20 minutes. Someday TxDot will turn Texas 71 into a smooth freeway, after which the drive should be even more fluid. We look forward to the anticipated developments — hotels and entertainment for sure —out there and will report back on the Circuit service staff that will produce events year-round.

Communities in Schools, of course, strives to make sure all kids graduate. More than 1,000 backers cheered on this goal this night.
One nagging question: With so many different high-powered entities devoted to education in Central Texas, how in the world do any children fall through the net? I guess with more than 150,000 students in area K-12 schools, there just aren’t enough paid and volunteer helpers to meet their voluminous needs.
Shame.
