Austin chefs do somethings special that many locals don’t know about. They donate their services at special high-value dinners that benefit worthy causes. Among those who have adroitly turned this latent generosity into cash for nonprofits are the Edible Austin folks who stage Eat Drink Local Week.

During those special days, food lovers can bid on meals from a selection of chefs. The proceeds go the Sustainable Food Center and Urban Roots Austin. On the final day, a live auction bumps up the action and closes out the sales.

This year, the auction took place in and around a dreamy Tarrytown home. Nibbles from various local food makers were scattered around the place. Folks lingered and chatted before the big bidding.

Organizer Marla Camp tells me they made $36,4000 from the auction alone. She’ll update us when the final charity numbers raised from Eat Drink Local Week.
