Joe Starr and I traced the exquisite Sabinal River yesterday from Lost Maples to the town of Sabinal. It actually disappears into a “black hole” on a ranch just before it reaches the town.
Spent the night in a surprisingly luxurious fauxtel in Uvalde. Dealt with the usual small-town headache: Everything closes early.
Today, we trace the upper Nueces River, which also disappears from the map a couple of times in recharge zones. Because of that, we might make it to Corpus Christi Bay by nightfall.
So what next? Drop by the whooping cranes at Aransas Pass. Then trace the San Antonio from its mouth near Victoria to its source in midtown San Antonio?
If we have extra time, we might add another Hill Country river at the end.
No more blogging until Thursday, then. Lots of photos then.
